Betul Lighthouse Event Goa Schedule Date: 17th (Saturday) – 18th (Sunday) August 2024 Location: Betul Lighthouse Cliff Goa
Important Note:
Only 4×4 vehicles and two-wheelers can reach the lighthouse directly. All other vehicles must be parked on the flat land area, which requires a 5-minute steep walk to the lighthouse.
Saturday, 17th August 2024
- 09:30 AM- *Assembly: Participants gather at the flat land area for vehicle parking and prepare for the walk to the lighthouse.
- 10:00 AM – Setup: Start setting up antennas and radio equipment. The setup will include:
- Antennas:
- 2x Multiband Rabbit Ear Antenna (20m to 6m) by VU3FGJ and VU2YQ
- 2-Element Yagi Multiband Rabbit Ear (20m to 6m)
- End-Fed Antenna (40m) by VU2ZMK
- Fan Dipole (40m, 20m, 10m) BY VU2YQ
- Transceivers:
- Yaesu FTdx10(VU3FGJ)
- FT991A(VU2YQ)
- Power:
- 60Ah Battery(VU3FGJ)
- 80Ah Battery(VU2YQ)
- Other Equipment:
- Portable tables and chairs for operations by VU2ZMK
- VU3FGJ’s 4×4 vehicle will parked at the top to carry heavy equipment and batteries, and to serve as an emergency shelter for rigs if it rains.
- 10:30 AM – Testing & Operations: Begin testing the setup and start operating.
Throughout the Day:
- The location is in a no-service area for Swiggy and Zomato. You can try placing orders with the location set to the starting point of the road up the hill, or make arrangements with local restaurants.
- Please carry disposable plates, glasses, and garbage bags for waste management.
- Bring your own chairs and tables for comfort.
- 09:00 PM – QRT & Dinner: Cease operations and head out for dinner. Participants wishing to return home may do so. Those staying overnight in Betul can stay at a hotel nearby (approx. cost INR 2000-2500 per head on a double-sharing basis). Alternatively, you can book accommodation as per your convenience.
- Overnight: Batteries will be charged at the hotel to ensure readiness for the next day.
Sunday, 18th August 2024
- 06:30 AM – Reporting Time: Participants who stayed overnight report back to the site to set up equipment.
- 07:00 AM – Resume Operations: Take advantage of favorable 40m band conditions during early morning hours.
- 05:00 PM – QRT: Cease operations and begin packing up.
Special Notes:
- Event: This operation is part of the International Lighthouse / Lightship Weekend (ILLW), held annually to promote public awareness of lighthouses and lightships and to recognize their importance.
- Call Sign: We will be operating under the special call sign AU2LH for the event.

- Safety and Preparation:- Ensure you have adequate supplies, water, and snacks, as the location is remote.
- It’s advisable to bring sun protection, hats, and any personal medications.
- Respect the environment and ensure no litter is left behind.
